COLOUR AND WORD FINAL IMAGES

After having retaking some of the images for assignment one here are my final images...

RED TEXTURE

I have chosen this image as it shows the cotton texture of the tennis ball left outside. There is also mud on the ball which adds to this quality. There is plenty of natural light in the image as it has been taken outside.

RED PATTERN

In this image the use of natural light has helped the image become successful, there is some slight shadow around one of the cushions.

RED VISCERAL

From the dramatic colours of red and black in this image we get an idea of strong emotion. The colours in the image also make it rather dramatic. There is a lot of strength coming from the eye that is showing in this image, it connects with the viewer. The light used in the image is natural from a nearby window, hence their being strong black areas on the right. It reminds me of side lighting in a studio.

PATTERN

The rope around the chime and also the background that has been blurred due to the aperture/ depth of field forms patterns in the image. There is also a strong sense of texture in the image coming from the main object on view.

TEXTURE

Here I used a small depth of field to concentrate on the textural qualities of the moss that circles the birdbath. There is also grainy texture on the actual bath.

MEMORY

Again using a small depth of field, I have chosen this image due to the words being faded out. The effect of this is it being like the person reading or has written the book has a fading memory.

GARGANTUAN

The perspective of this makes the watering can seem a lot bigger than it actually is in front of the rest of the garden.

WATER

I love the water droplets on this flower. This image could also relate to my colour swatch but I hadn't chose this word to relate to the colour.

FINAL IMAGE FOR WINTER BRIEF

Here is my final image that I have been working to achieve...

I have chosen this image because...

  • The isolation of branches links with death which winter is associated with because nature dies out particularly the trees and it is the end of the tree.
  • The branches cropped like this look like barbed wires again linking with death
  • The sky is without clouds or sunshine, which is often the case in this season
  • There is contrast between man made and nature because the electrical wires running through the branches
  • There is very few leaves in the image which I had a problem with at the start of the brief because I was photographing in autumn

CROPPING IMAGES

In the previous season images I didn't do much editing like cropping. In the feedback I received on the images the words isolation and creepiness kept being repeated. They also recommended cropping some of the images for the final winter image needed. Here are some images I have cropped with its original, I have done this using lightroom software...

In the crop of this image, it is quite busier with branches and also leaves than the next two. The amount of leaves could take it away from being a winter image. I have used the multiple exposure image because it displays the passing of time which is closely associated with winter. There is also a kind of stillness in the isolation of the branches. There is also a contrast between man made and natural components in the image. There are electicity cables running through the image which slightly act as a divide. The sky in the image is also one colour, often in winter there is no clouds or sun in the sky, so this works on this level.

The more see able branches in this crop remind me of barbed wire, linking the season of winter with death. I have used a small opacity with the other photo in the crop, to create a pattern feel.
